Coolangatta is situated on the Bundjalung nation, which covers a large area extending from northern New South Wales into southern Queensland, and Yugambeh-speaking people are one of the groups that inhabit this region, with strong cultural ties to the land and sea.  

The 5th Australasian Young Coastal Scientist & Engineers Conference 2024 Central Hub will be held at the Greenmount Beach Surf Club (SLSC), Bundjalung, Queensland, Australia. The beautiful heritage-listed venue is nestled into the corner on the north-side of Greenmount Headland with stunning ocean views. 

 

Getting There

Flying In

The venue is conveniently located just 5 kilometers from the Gold Coast Airport (Coolangatta), an international airport offering a range of domestic and international flights. This proximity makes it easily accessible for guests traveling from various regions. Whether you’re arriving from other parts of Australia or from abroad, you’ll find the journey from the airport to the venue quick and straightforward, allowing you to get settled and start enjoying your time without delay.

Public Transport

The Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) is conveniently located approximately 400 meters from the nearest bus stop on Griffith Street. For direct travel to and from the airport, you can catch bus #760. If you’re coming from other Gold Coast beaches, such as Broadbeach or Burleigh Heads, bus #700 offers a convenient route. For those traveling from Brisbane, carpooling is a viable option. Alternatively, you can take the train from Brisbane to Varsity Lakes, followed by the #760 bus, which will get you to the SLSC in approximately 2-3 hours.

Accessibility

Buses serving the area are wheelchair and pram-friendly, ensuring convenient transportation for all passengers. Additionally, there is mobility-friendly parking available in the adjacent public carpark on Marine Parade. The Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) itself is fully accessible, featuring a ramp at the front entrance for easy access. Inside, a lift is available to take guests to the first floor, where the conference is being held. These facilities ensure that everyone, including those with mobility needs, can comfortably access the venue and participate in the event.

Staying Locally

The venue is conveniently located along the scenic coastal pathway that stretches from Surfers Paradise to Tweed Heads. This makes it an ideal destination for those who prefer to bike, scooter, use a mobility device, or walk from any of the nearby beaches. For cyclists, there is bike parking available at the front of the Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC), providing a secure and accessible spot to leave your bicycle. This setup offers a pleasant and eco-friendly way to reach the venue while enjoying the beautiful coastal scenery.

Arriving By Car

While we encourage using public transport, walking, wheeling in, or bike riding to reach the venue, carpooling or driving is also a viable option. There is plenty of street parking available in Coolangatta, along with a public carpark adjacent to the Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC). This provides ample parking spaces for those who prefer to drive, making it convenient for guests regardless of their preferred mode of transportation.
